About Elite Outdoor Services
Owner-run, based in Hancock, New Hampshire. The whole story is what's underneath — and the fact that you get to see every stage.
Meet Patrick St. John
Patrick St. John owns and runs Elite Outdoor Services. He's on the site — walking the yard, reading the grade, running the equipment, and walking the finished patio with you before it's called done. One accountable owner, from the first consultation to the final walk-around.
The base-first philosophy came from seeing what happens when it's skipped: patios poured on questionable dirt that heave and crack after one New Hampshire winter. The pattern looks the same on day one. It doesn't look the same after the second winter.
That's why Elite does its own excavation and base prep in-house — not subbed out, not skipped. We call 811 before we dig. We compact the sub-base in lifts. We install drainage. We lay rebar. And we document every stage with photos and video, so you can see the quality going in.
Every competitor shows pretty finished patios. Our story is what's underneath — and the fact that you get to see it.

The base-first philosophy
Most contractors in the region pour pretty patterns on an unengineered base and hide the middle steps. The finished surface looks great in the photos — but you never see what's underneath. And what's underneath is what determines whether your patio lasts.
We reject that approach. The base is the foundation of everything we build: the excavation, the compacted sub-base, the drainage, the reinforcement. It's the expensive, unglamorous part of the job that most crews skip — and it's where we put our work.
All concrete can develop hairline cracks over time. What we engineer against is the structural cracking and heaving that destroys patios — the kind that comes from an unprepared base and poor drainage under freeze-thaw pressure.
